Abuja meeting to promote integration in ECOWAS

Abuja - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its development partners are meeting in Abuja to enhance on regional economic integration.

The meeting commences today (Monday) at Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

According to a statement obtained by CAJ News at the weekend, officials of some of the regional bloc directorates charged with specific mandates of integration will gather and brainstorm.

Officials from the European Union (EU), German International Cooperation Agency, Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) were expected to attend.

The theme of the meeting is “Fostering Regional Economic Integration and Development in West Africa.”

The meeting is expected to provide insights into the efforts of the development partners and ECOWAS Commission in the realization of the regional integration and development programmes.

ECOWAS stated that other significant issues such as general trade facilitation, Common External Tariff (CET), Community Development Programme (CDP), Monetary Integration Programme (MIP) and Private sector promotion as well as industrial policy strategy and projects will be appraised during the meeting.

The meeting is also expected to serve as a platform for the regional bloc to provide relevant information to the Development Partners on the status of implementation of the Community Work Programme and clarified some emerging issues raised by the development partners.
