Adamawa - The Adamawa House of Assembly on Monday announced the death of one of its members, Ahmed Gangwaso, from Nasara-Binyeri Constituency.
A statement by Mr Solomon Kumangar, the Chief Press Secretary to the Assembly Speaker, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, said Gangwaso died on Friday at the University of Maiduguri Teachment Hospital (UNIMAID).
According to the statement, the deceased was the chairman of the House standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
It said the remains of the lawmaker had been buried according to Islamic rites.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gangwaso’s death had brought the number of elected officials who passed away in Adamawa within six weeks to five.
Messrs Napwamwa George and Damian Labai, the Chairmen of Numan and Toungo Local Government Areas respectively, had died of heart failure.
Similarly, two unidentified Councillors from Madagali Local Government Council lost their lives in a road accident last Saturday, while returning from the PDP State Congress in Yola.
According to Kumangar, Mr Bala Ngilari, the deputy governor of Adamawa, has condoled with the families of the late politicians on behalf of the state government.
