Agency donates measles drug worth N7,5m

08 May 2013, 12:02

Birnin Kebbi - The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Tuesday donated drugs and materials worth N7,5 million to enable health personnel in Kebbi to combat measles.

Other materials donated by the agency were 20 motorcycles and 26 cold chains.

The Zonal Technical Officer of NPHCDA, Alhaji Ahmad Shehu,  who made the donations, said the materials were meant to assist the state in routine immunisation and surveillance, especially in border settlements and riverside communities.

He said the agency would sustain its support on disease control and called for closer cooperation between the state and the agency.

Shehu said it was regrettable that 4 721 cases of measles had been recorded in the state in the last five months and urged health officials to ensure the disease was eliminated.

The Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Shehu Sambawa, commended the agency for the donation and promised  that the materials would be utilised judiciously.

He said  that government had approved the establishment of infectious diseases departments in all hospitals as part of preventive measures on disease control.
