Agency gives aid to Edo flood victims

13 March 2014, 20:28

Edo -  The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief material to victims of rainstorm and erosion disasters in Edo State.

The seven communities are in the Etsako West Local Government Area.

The items included 60 bags of parboiled rice, several cartons of soap and toiletries, 60 bags of cement, 60 bundles of roofing sheets, roofing nails, 100 pieces of towels, mattresses and blankets.

Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hassan Kadiri, thanked the Federal Government for the support to the victims and urged the recipients to make judicious use of the donation.

He appealed to the Agency to consider more donations for the large number of victims.

Kadiri explained that the council was taking necessary steps to ameliorate the effects of natural disasters in the area through regular evacuation of debris from the drains that could cause flooding.

He also advised residents in the area to cooperate with the council in its effort to enhance environmental cleanliness by avoiding dumping of refuse into drains, especially as the rains approach.
