19 June 2012, 07:18

Uyo - Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom says the state government is to sign an agreement with Air France-KLM on maintenance of  air planes at the Ibom International Airport.

The governor made the announcement in his goodwill message on Monday in Uyo at the PDP induction and policy retreat.

Akpabio said that the agreement would be signed in France on June 20, adding that the airport had recorded 403,663 passengers in 7,749 flights within two years of its operation.

The governor also called for the evolution of policies that would move the country forward in the aviation sector.

Akpabio expressed optimism that after the retreat, major policies would be evolved for the betterment of the country.

The PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, declared the retreat open and party faithful went into closed sessions shortly after.
