Abuja - The Akwa Ibom State government has advised pensioners to provide  their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN)to enable payment of pensions and gratuities.

Those that fail may not be considered.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah.

He said this was part of the decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting in Uyo, presided over by the Governor Udom Emmanuel.

"All eligible pensioners are required to  submit their BVN at their various sub-treasury offices, latest by 25th of October, to guarantee the payment of their entitlements," Umanah said.

He added that the State Executive Council took cognisance of the fact that the BVN registration exercise was due to end on October 30 hence the need to have all pensioners registered before the deadline in order to avoid untoward consequences.

The commissioner said the State Executive Council also acknowledged the provision of computers to 43 schools across the state and directed the Ministry of Education to develop new strategies that would encourage reading and promote book culture among the people.
