Alleged Abuja land fraudsters receive bail

Lagos - The two suspects who allegedly defrauded a colleague N8 million in a fraudulent land scheme have secured bail at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Azuka Andra Okeke and Ibrahim Abukakar appeared before the court sitting in Maitama, Abuja a four-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence.

Okeke and Abubakar are alleged to have fraudulently conspired to collect the said sum of money, in instalments, from one Eunice Chibuzor Uchendu, with a promise to secure for her some plots of land at Kabusa, Galadimawa and Mpape districts of Abuja in 2011.

The court heard that although, the complainant was issued acknowledgement papers, she could not secure the land.

All the efforts of the victim to get a refund of her money from the accused were unsuccessful.

The accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Aladetoyinbo has granted each accused bail in the sum of N3 million with one surety each in like sum. The sureties must be a top civil servant.

The case has been adjourned to April 16 for hearing.
