18 February 2015, 18:37

Lagos - The trial of Aliyu Bello, the former Special Assistant to the Director of Administration (Pension Accounts) in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, has failed to take off after Bello reported ill at the Federal High court in Abuja.

He claimed he was unfit following injuries sustained during an attack by armed robbers.

Bello and a Sokoto State school teacher, Abdullahi Omeiza, are standing trial before Justice Adeniyi Ademola on a five-count charge bordering on criminal conversion and stealing of over N1 billion from the Pension Account, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

They are alleged to have at various times between 2009 and 2010 defrauded the office through various third parties.

Although both accused have been present in court, the defence counsel, Mahmood Magaji, expressed concern over the health of Bello.

The counsel stated the accused was still recuperating from a head injury sustained during the robbery over the weekend.

Ademola has subsequently adjourned the case to April 28 for continuation of trial.
