Abuja - Rotimi Amaechi, the Rivers State Governor, recommended the establishment of a department to monitor how Ministries, Departments, Parastatals and Agencies (MDAs) were spending funds allocated them in the budget.
He said the establishment of such a department would curtail rampant misuse of funds by MDAs and would enable them deliver well-prepared budgets.
“There can be no success in government without monitoring and evaluation and there can no budget without monitoring,” Amaechi said during a training programme the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning organised in the state in partnership with M-R International Limited.
He urged government entities to ensure transparency and accountability in the drawing up of budgets.
He said corruption would be curtailed if Ministries, Departments, Parastatals and Agencies (MDAs) insisted on those ideals.
“The days of estimated and guess work in budgeting is over,” said Amaechi.
Meanwhile, the State Commission of Budget and Economic Planning, Gogo Levi Charles noted that the challenge faced in the State budget, was lack of transparency in budget planning.
