Rivers- Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, expressed sadness at the sudden passing of former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ndagene Akwu.
In a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, David Iyofor, Amaechi sympathized with the family of late Aku and the NUJ, calling his death a huge loss to the nation's media industry.
"Ndagene Akwu was a notable journalist whose contributions to building a strong, vital union of journalists in the country while he served as President of the NUJ cannot be forgotten," read the statement.
Akwu died at age 55 of undisclosed ailment
He served as the national president of the union from 2006 to 2009.
Akwu was until his death a Senior Editor with the Rivers State Television.
