Lagos - Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has initiated the Water Transport Safety Awareness Programme campaign by handing out 2400 life jackets throughout the state.

Ambode stated that the programme would encourage safety on waterways and also raise awareness to the many fatalities which occur due to a lack of safety.
The life jackets were distributed to mostly students who were encouraged to wear them at all times when travelling via the Lagos waterways.
Parents were also encouraged to ensure that there children remained safe by vigilantly making sure that the life jackets were being worn.
The students were shown how to use the life jackets and also how to resuscitate victims of boat mishaps.
