Anambra Assembly passes 2013 Appropriation Bill

13 March 2013, 11:11

Awka - The Anambra House of Assembly on Tuesday passed  the 2013 Appropriate Bill of N110.94 billion into law.

The passage followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, to the entire assembly for final deliberation.

NAN further reports that the approved budge is N60 million higher than the N110.89 billion presented to the house in December by Gov. Peter Obi.

The Chairperson of the committee, Ms Nikky Ugochukwu, explained that in deliberating on the budget, the technical adjustments made on the bill by the governor as addressed to the house were taken into consideration.

``In order to adequately fund the budget and also match expenditure with revenue, the committee recommends that the projected state share of the Federation Account be increased from N54 billion to N54.60 billion.

Ugochukwu said that the total capital expenditure estimates increased from N60 million to N70.95 billion.

She explained that the increase was due to the jacking up of the capital expenditure of the state house of assembly from N710.5million to N770.5 million.

They advised Obi  to ensure that no area was neglected in the execution of projects and programmes before the end of his tenure.

In another development, the legislature, has amended the 1999 Local Government Law to renew the tenure of council caretaker committee members, who had spent one year in office.

All caretaker committee members in the 21 Local Government  Areas of the state had their tenure extended by another three months, with the exception of only two members who were dropped.
