Anambra bans use of contractors for market projects

11 April 2013, 13:06

Anambra -  The Anambra Government has banned the use of contractors to execute market projects, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Robert Okonkwo, announced on Wednesday.

Okonkwo said in Onitsha at the inauguration of the hall belonging to the Tools and Allied Product Dealers Association, that the measure would enable members of the association to execute such projects directly.

According to him, the move will guarantee probity and accountability in all the markets in the state.

He commended the members for their peaceful leadership and urged them to continue in that spirit.

The commissioner reminded the traders of the need to pay their levies promptly into government coffers.

A philanthropist Godwin Ezeemo who assisted in the building of the hall, explained that he  was moved to assist because he belongs to the association.

Earlier, the Chairman of the association, Emma Anagor thanked the governor for always being sensitive to the needs of the people.
