Another Ajudua bail application rejected

13 May 2014, 21:03

Lagos - A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has turned down another bail application filed by alleged fraud kingpin Fred Ajudua.

Ajudua, who is standing trial for allegedly defrauding former Chief of Army Staff, Ishaya Bamaiyi, of $8.4 million, had applied for bail on the grounds of ill health.

Part of the exhibit filed in support of his application were two medical reports from the Lagos University Hospital which indicted that he was suffering from kidney failure.

Ruling on the bail application this afternoon, Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye held that there were no special circumstances warranting the court to grant the defendant bail.

The judge held that Ajudua had in the past absconded trial after being granted bail by another court in a different matter.

Ipaye said she was mindful of Ajudua antecedent as he had also tried to compromise an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission witness in another matter.

The judge further held that Ajudua's chances of skipping bail were high.

She subsequently adjourned the matter to June 30.

Ajudua was refused bail recently in another court where he is standing trial for allegedly defrauding two Dutch nationals of $1.69 million.
