Katsina - Armed robbers have reportedly killed an elderly man at Karare village of Rimi local government area in Katsina following a robbery.
Village Head of Karare, Bishir Karare said the armed men stormed the village and headed straight to the deceased residence.
He said the armed men arrived the village on a bike and demanded money from their victim who reportedly told them he had no money.
“They left but came back and hack the old man to death before fleeing the village on their motorcycles,” the village head said.
The deceased, identified as Audu Naira, was said to be the richest man in the village.
In a separate incident, reportedly burgled two popular shopping malls, Jifatu and Umar Stores, in Katsina metropolis where they reportedly carted away items worth millions of Naira.
A shop attendant at Umar stores told journalists the armed men, numbering about 20 stormed the stores located adjacent each other.
He said they wielded different dangerous weapons including knives and daggers.
It is said alleged police did not respond promptly to distress call while the attack lasted.
The spokesman of Katsina State Police Command, Aminu Abubakar Sadik could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press but he sent a text message that he was attending a meeting.
