Assembly sacks acting MD of Nasarawa Board

27 November 2012, 10:07

Nasarawa - The Nasarawa House of Assembly on Monday sacked the acting Managing Director of the state Urban Development Board (NUDB), Mr Edward Daudu, for allegedly occupying the office illegally.

The Speaker of the assembly, Musa Mohammed, directed the Clerk of the house to communicate the resolution to Gov. Umaru Al-Makura for further necessary action.

The house took the decision in Lafia when the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Hamza Elayo, accompanied by the acting managing director, appeared before it for clarification on the activities of the board.

According Elayo, the sacked official is a covering officer of the board and not the acting managing director of the board as claimed in some quarters.

Elayo told the house that he acted on the directive of the governor to ask the most senior member of staff of the board to be covering officer pending the appointment of a substantive managing director.

The house unanimously agreed to sack the acting managing director and to issue one week ultimatum to the governor to submit names of people for confirmation in the substantive position.

The house also directed Daudu not to parade himself as the acting managing director of the board or otherwise face the wrath of the law.
