Attacks: Police tasks Borno residents on vigilance

16 October 2015, 21:40

Maiduguri - The Borno police command on Friday called on residents of the state to be vigilant, following the increased spate of attacks in Maiduguri.

Aderemi Opadokun, the Commissioner of Police, gave the advice while speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri.

Opadokun advised individuals to report strange movements or objects in their localities to security agents for necessary action.

He confirmed the killing of no fewer than 14 persons in Thursday's twin blasts at Mulai in the outskirts of Maiduguri.

"At about 18:35 hours on Thursday, two suspected suicide bombers detonated their explosives in and outside a mosque in Mulai,’’ he said.

Opadokun said the building collapsed and 14 persons died while many people, who were praying suffered various degrees of injury.

The commissioner, however, said that the number of deaths so far recorded was 14, including the two bombers.

"The casualties have been evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and the Specialist Hospital, also in Maiduguri,'' Opadokun said.

He said that the police had begun investigation into the incident while normal activities had since resumed in the area.
