Benue - The Benue Government has appealed to the people of Ijegu in Obi and Ojentela in Otukpo Local Government Areas to stop the wanton destruction of lives and property over land dispute.
The state Deputy Governor, Mr Stephen Lawani, made the appeal in Otukpo on Monday while on assessment visit to the crisis areas.
Lawani advised them to find amicable means of settling their disputes rather than resort to the use of arms.
He criticised the deaths and destruction of property and called for better understanding of the issues that led to the crisis.
The crisis broke out between the two communities on Aug. 8, over the ownership of land.
Four people were reported dead following the out break of hostilities between the communities.
The Benue Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Daniel Ezeala said that the command was on top of the situation and would do everything possible to end the crisis.
Ezeala said a detachment of anti-riot squad police had been deployed to prevent further crisis in the area.
