Billions remitted to Kaduna/Katsina accounts

Kaduna -  Kaduna/Katsina Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said more than N4.9 billion was collected and remitted into the federation account in 2013.

Yerima Abubakar, the Area Controller of the service, disclosed the figures adding that the command also collected N437.7 million in its operations for the month of January 2014.

Abubakar said the command made 311 seizures last year with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N997.6 million while 15 seizures were made in January this year worth N10.1 million.

He said some of the seizures made include rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil, pharmaceutical products, vehicles, and motorcycles at different locations.

The Area controller said the command seized a Passat station wagon car three days ago loaded with 681 rolls of tramadol, and that the suspect had attempted to bribe officers with 435 000 Francs.

He said the arrested smuggler was a notorious drug courier from Niger Republic and had been on the wanted list for being " behind most of the drugs smuggled into the country.

Meanwhile, Abubakar said a total of 8 248 officers were promoted nationwide.

He commended efforts of sister security agencies for their support and cooperation in 2013 and called appealed for the assistance during this year.
