Bishop appeals to traders not to exploit shoppers

18 December 2012, 14:36

Nsukka - The Bishop of Nsukka Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, has appealed to traders not to exploit shoppers during the yuletide to maximise profit.

He made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Tuesday.

"Christmas is a season to show true love and not a period to cheat or do evil. The birth of Jesus Christ signifies the love of God for mankind.

"We should celebrate it by showing true love to one another," he said and urged the traders and other business people not to increase the prices of their goods and services.

"I want to urge traders and other business people to sell and offer their services at the normal price in order to receive the blessings that are in the birth of Jesus Christ.''

The bishop also urged Nigerians to use the period to pray for the nation, noting that with fervent prayers, the current security challenges and other problems confronting the nation would be surmounted.

"Nigerians should use the Christmas period to pray more for the country. The period calls for sober reflection and stock-taking of how we have been living our lives.

"We should share whatever we have with our neighbours and the less privileged so that God will be happy with us.

"People should refrain from immoral behaviours and over-eating and drinking during the Christmas,’’ he said and wished all Nigerians merry Christmas and happy New Year in advance.
