Report threatening text messages- Police

21 June 2012, 12:16

Borno - The Police Command in Borno on Thursday appealed to the public to report receipt of anonymous text messages urging them to pay ransoms or get killed to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Gideon Jibrin, made the appeal in a statement in Maiduguri.

``The command wishes to assure the people of the state that steps are being taken to track down those criminally minded persons who do make calls or send text messages seeking ransom from the people.

``Individuals who receive such messages should report to the police immediately,'' he said.

Jibrin assured the people of the state that the identity of informants would be treated confidentially.

``We also wish to remind the good people of  Bornothat the cash reward on useful information from anybody that will led to the arrest of hoodlums and other criminals is still open,'' he said.

Jibrin said that those who volunteered information that could lead to the arrest of hoodlums or discovery of arms stockpiles would receive rewards of between N500,000 and N1 million.
