Abuja - The Army has commended the local vigilante group in Borno State for assisting the military in its operations against terrorists in the area.
“I must commend the efforts of the vigilante group toward assisting us in ensuring that we succeed in the operations. The vigilante group is actually adding colour to what the military is doing in the fight against the insurgents,” spokesman of the division, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Muhammad Dole, said during an interactive session with media in Maiduguri.
Dole said although there were some minor lapses on the part of the vigilante group, the overall performance of the group had been commendable.
“One important point is that members of vigilante group are not professionals, but surprisingly they have been able to live up to their expectations.”
He appealed to Borno residents to intensify prayers as it continued the onslaught against suspected Boko Haram hideouts in the state.
“We are appealing to residents to continue praying for us in our ongoing operations against the insurgents. We are also calling on the people to cooperate and assist with useful information that could help in the success of our operations,” he said.
Borno is one of the states that have borne the brunt of the terror unleashed by the Boko Haram sect.
