Bus and truck collide on Ontisha-Engugu road

06 February 2014, 07:42

Onitsha - One person died and 17 others were injured in an accident on the Onitsha-Enugu road, according to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

The accident occurred when an 18-seater bus and a truck collided.

The FRSC Unit Commander in Nteje, Sunday Joseph, confirmed the accident which happened at about 15:00 in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.

Joseph attributed the incident to speeding. The injured were rushed to Iyi-Enu Hospital in Ogidi near Onitsha.

“Only one lane is being used due to construction work; so one should over-speed in a single lane that is being used to and fro,” he said.

The commander advised drivers to always be cautious of the environment in which they found themselves to help curtail road accidents.

An eyewitness told NAN that the bus was coming from Onitsha while the truck was coming from Awka when the accident occurred.
