Abuja - Fifteen people died on the spot while dozens others seriously injured when the bus they were trying in plunged into the collapsed bridge in Katsina.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night at Gadar Kuki bridge in 'Yar Albasa village along Katsina-Kano road in Katsina State.
According to eyewitnesses Ibrahim Gambo a bus carrying 23 passengers plunged into the collapsed bridge resulting in the death of 15 persons while six others are reportedly missing.
Gambo said the driver of the ill-fated bus was driving in high speed and applied brake as he approached the collapsed bridge before plunging into the water.
Gambo said the bus was coming from Kankia to Katsina with 23 passengers on board where 11 of the dead passengers were recovered at the scene of the accident while four dead bodies were recovered in Ajiwan dam which is a miles away from the scene of the accident.
He added that six persons from the bus were still missing.
CAJ News Nigeria gathered that with the collapsed bridge the road from Katsina toKano has been completely cut off, Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps have been drafted to the area to control traffic in the area.
The Katsina State sector commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Habu Dauda who confirmed the incident said he could not for now verity the number of dead from the accident.
