CDS sets up panel to probe Jaji blast

27 November 2012, 16:21

Kaduna - The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Ibrahim, has set up a panel to investigate Sunday’s twin suicide bomb attacks at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State.

The CDS stated this on Tuesday while responding to questions from journalists shortly after inspecting the St. Andrews Protestant Church at the cantonment in Jaji, Kaduna State, which was the target of the double bomb blast, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Ibrahim, who expressed shock at the manner the attacks were successfully carried out, said the outcome of the investigation would determine the action to be taken by the Defence Headquarters.

He stressed that a thorough investigation had commenced and that the outcome would soon be known.

He gave the assurance that that would determine the next line of action by the Defence Headquarters in the next few days.

No fewer than 11 persons died in the twin attacks while 30 others were injured when the bombs went off during the afternoon Church service.

Four other victims on admission in hospitals were reported dead on Monday by the Commandant of Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, AVM Abdullahi Kure.

The commandant told Governor Patrick Yakowa who was at the cantonment to commiserate with the families of the victims, that the death toll from the blast had now risen to 15.

NAN reports that victims of the attack are being treated in heavily fortified military health facilities in Kaduna.

One of the victims, a senior Air Force officer, was said to have been flown abroad for urgent medical attention, following serious burns he sustained in the attack.
