Kano - The Commissioner of Police in Kano, Alhaji Musa Daura, has ordered investigation into the shooting by a policeman during the funeral prayer for a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheik Aliyu Harazami.
Harazami, 97, died on Wednesday at his residence after a protracted illness.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya, announced this in Kano on Wednesday.
Majiya said the commissioner gave the order after he received the report on the shooting and confirmed that only one person was injured by stray bullet during the incident.
He said: “the incident happened after Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso left the venue not during the funeral prayer.”
He said the injured person was hospitalised.
NAN recalls that a policeman mistakenly opened fire on the crowd at the funeral prayer which was held at about 16:00 on Wednesday.
Thousands of Muslims faithful from within and outside the country attended the funeral prayer.
