Chiboks panics at new Boko Haram threat

16 June 2014, 18:11

Abuja - Members of the Boko Haram sect have reportedly threatened Chibok residents with another attack.

A senior official from the Chibok local government area informed journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital, authorities received a letter
carrying the threats.

He said police had been made aware of the letter and the impending attack.

Police have assured them of the protection of the area, he added.

He said although the police had given them assurances, people in the area were panic stricken.

"Everyone knows that this sect cannot be ward off by a pocket of security men and that perhaps informed why they had to send a letter to us to be
expecting them," he said.

"Whenever Boko Haram tells you that they are coming, they never fail to come. Our fears now is that, we don't know when and how they are going to come but our people are in great fear. We are calling for prayers as well as government to provided adequate security in Chibok," the official

The alleged threats come two months after Boko Haram sect members kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls. It is holding them hostage.
