Communal clash claims one life, 15 houses

30 November 2012, 07:24

Lagos - At least, one man was killed and 15 houses razed in a communal clash between the Ilaje and Ajah communities in Ajah area of Lagos Island on Thursday.

An eye witness told newsmen in Lagos that the deceased was killed on Wednesday night, while residents were fleeing the combat zone.

He said that guns and cutlasses were freely used by the combatants, who were mostly youths from both sides to the conflict.

Though the cause of the current clash could not be ascertained yet, killings and burning of houses in communal clashes had become common in Ajah area of Lagos.

A competent police source, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that armed policemen had been deployed to the area to restore peace and order.
