Benin - Some staff of the Integrated Data Services Ltd., Benin, have suffered from food poisoning after eating at the end of the year party organised by company’s management.
Mr Yemi Dare, the company’s Manager, Public Administration Department, who confirmed the incident on Monday in Benin said that the company suspected foul play. According to him, the medical unit of the company is now investigating the matter to confirm if it is food poisoning.
He confirmed that food was contracted out to a caterer in Benin, (name withheld) for the occasion. "IDSL held a send-off reception in honour of its retirees on Dec. 13, 2012. At the occasion, foods and drinks were served through a renowned caterer in Benin.
"Staff participated at the occasion and ate the food irrespective of the type eaten some reacted later that day. Some reportedly had issues of recurring stool, while others experienced vomiting alongside the stool. It was obvious from the number of people involved that food poisoning could not be ruled out, though this has not been officially stated to be the case.” Dare added.
Dare added: “The situation was aptly brought under control through the assistance of NNPC Medical Services, Benin zone. "Every staff that had adverse reactions as a result of the food intake was promptly attended to by our medical services personnel.’’
Dare said that not a single death was recorded as a result of the incident, adding that the management had since commenced a full investigation into the causes of the reactions experienced by staff.
"Our medical services are conducting investigation into the unfortunate incident,’’ he added
