Abuja - Mr Emmanuel Amlai has been appointed Acting Director-General of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the former Director-General, Mrs Ify Umenyi
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr Abiodun Obimuyiwa, the Deputy Director, Public Relations unit of the council.
The statement explained that Amlai, the most senior director, was until his appointment, the Director, Quality Assurance and Development.
He was a former Director, Surveillance and Enforcement before moving to the Quality Assurance and Development Department, the statement said.
``The new acting director-general, before joining the council in 2001 as a Deputy Director, had worked at top management level with Nigeria Asbestos Industry Limited and Supercor Industry Limited, all in Bauchi.”
According to the statement, Umenyi, while handing over to Amlai, thanked management and staff for the cooperation and loyalty she enjoyed while piloting the affairs of the agency.
She expressed the hope that her successor would find the structures put in place by her administration useful in a renewed effort at taking the organisation to a higher level in the execution of its mandate.
``One of the greatest assets that will be inherited by the new administration is the unwavering commitment of the workforce to the actualisation of the council’s mandate,” Umenyi said in the statement.
According to the statement, the council bagged the Regulator of the Year 2012 Award of the Verbatim Magazine for its outstanding performance in the protection of consumers’ rights.
``The award was conferred on the council at an investiture held on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja,” the statement added.
