Court remands 5 suspected cult members in prison for murder

20 April 2013, 10:07

Lagos - An Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos, on Friday ordered five persons accused of cultism to be remanded in Ikoyi Prison for alleged murder of three persons.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, ordered the accused, Saheed Lawal, 24, Nurudeen Akinosun,30, Adebayo Muritala,28, Adeniyi Adejonwo,34 and Orshetimehin Ayutsede, 27 to be kept in the prison.

Aje-Afunwa ordered that the accused, facing a four-count charge of conspiracy and murder should be kept in prison pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution.

The prosecutor, ASP Etim Nkankuk, said the accused committed the crime between Nov. 17, 2011 and March 21 at Adeyemi Street, Mushin, Lagos.

He said two cult groups had a misunderstanding that led to a fight.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused and others at large, used guns and other offensive weapons.

“The accused allegedly killed one Mrs Fatima Abiola, Mr Bode Sangowale and Mr Adeolu Otenaike,” he said.

He said the offences contravened the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case to May 25 for further hearing.
