01 October 2013, 17:00

Makurdi - A 27-year-old man, Samuel Eimoga, was on Friday remanded in prison by a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged murder of an 18-year-old girl.

The Prosecuting Police Officer, Godwin Ebonyi, told the court that, the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ugbokpo in Apa to the state CID, Makurdi, on July 23, 2013.

Ebonyi said that, one Abdul Tijani reported the case to the police station on July 18, that his 18-year-old daughter, Adietu, was attacked, murdered and buried on a farm.

He quoted Tijani as saying his daughter left home for the farm on Aug. 17 but never returned, adding that a search by villagers revealed that the girl had been killed and buried on the farm by unknown persons.

The prosecution said that the accused person was arrested in connection with the crime, adding he voluntarily confessed to have committed the offence.

When the case came up for mention, the accused did not take any plea for want of jurisdiction.

The prosecution told the court that investigation into the matter was still in progress, and prayed for another date for mention.

Chief Magistrate Dan Ogo ordered the accused to be remanded, and adjourned the case to Aug 12. for further mention.
