Sango-Ota - A truck driver, Raphael
Adefila, who allegedly drove his vehicle recklessly and killed four
people including a septuagenarian, was on Friday charged before an Ota
Magistrates' Court in Ogun.
Rapheal, 28, whose address is unknown, is being prosecuted on a two-count charge of manslaughter and reckless driving.
According to the prosecution, the accused committed the offences on
Sept. 26 at 1.30 p.m. at Sango-Ota Toll Gate on the Lagos-Abeokuta
Insp. Chuks Uwaya told the court that Adefila drove a truck with
registration no. JJJ 551 XB recklessly and killed four pedestrians.
He gave the names of the deceased as Sulaimon Raimi, 70; Omowunmi Ayodele, 43; Waliat Kareem, 35; and Mathew Oyebanji, 27.
Uwaya said the offences contravened Sections 5(1) and 6(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Laws of the Federation, 2006.
The accused, however, denied the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Titi Bello, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Bello said one of the sureties, who must be a civil servant in Ogun of not less than grade level 13.
