Abuja - The Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, reacted irritably to comments credited to Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, who questioned the former’s fitness to hold the cabinet post.
It was reported on Wednesday Tinubu questioned the competence of Obanikoro in addressing the insecurity situation plaguing the country.
“It is unfortunate that people like Bola Tinubu have chosen to politicize our war against the Boko Haram insurgency. To begin with, the mess we are trying to clean up was created by Tinubu's friends in the APC who promised to make Nigeria ungovernable for this administration,” Obanikoro reacted.
He said Tinubu's criticism was a product of frustration as a result of their recent loss in Ekiti.
“I want to believe Tinubu's comments at me are a product of frustration as a result of their recent loss in Ekiti. Rather than this desperation of looking for who to blame for their political woes, politicians like him should join hands with our government to fight what is clearly our common enemy. Real leaders think about the future of their nation, not the next election.”
He also questioned Tinubu’s leadership qualities.
“In other advanced societies, their leaders deal with their security issues without reducing it to politics. Leadership is multi-dimensional and I am combining politics with my governance responsibilities.”
