Asaba - The Delta State Fire Service in Asaba on Friday said it recorded 17 deaths in various fire accidents in 2012.
The state Director of the service, John Odije, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Friday.
Odije said the 2012 figure was higher than the 13 deaths it recorded in 2011.
He said that three persons were rescued from the incident during the period under review, while 11 were rescued in 2011.
The director said the service saved property worth N11.3 billion and lost N2.6 billion worth of property in 2012.
Odije said that in 2011the service saved N12.8 billion worth of property and lost N2.1 billion property.
He also said the service received 334 distress calls as against 358 calls received in 2011.
