Delta Govt approves establishment of 2 waste plants

20 December 2012, 09:42

Asaba - The Delta Government on Wednesday said that it would establish two integrated solid waste management plants in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Chike Ogeah, made this known while briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Asaba.

Ogeah said that the waste plants, estimated to cost N1.8 billion, would be sited in Asaba and Warri, respectively.

He also said that the council ratified that the state should invest N128 million in the staff and public housing project to be undertaken at Ugbolu, near Asaba, by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The commissioner explained that the state would be entitled to 10 per cent share of the proceeds from the sale of the houses after completion.

In addition, Ogeah said that the council approved a proposal for the government to obtain N10 billion loan for funding "capital projects and other critical obligations".

"The council also approved N75 million for the conduct of first term examination in public primary and post primary schools for the 2012/2013 academic session.

"The government has also approved the sum of N286 million for the payment of enrolment fee for SSIII and VOCIII students in public senior secondary and technical schools in the state.

"The examinations, which will come up in May/June and June/July, 2013, are those of West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and National Board for Technical Education (NABTEB)," he added.
