Delta to dish out N2bn for scholarships

25 July 2013, 13:04

Asaba - Delta Government on Wednesday approved N2 billion for bursary and  scholarship awards this year.

The Chairman of Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Buchi Aninye, confirmed the development while presenting cheques to 18 scholarship awardees in Asaba.

The funds will cover scholarship and bursary schemes being run by the state government.

"Among the approvals is First Class Graduate Scholarships worth N1.2 billion, Overseas Postgraduate Scholarships, N147.9 million and Aviation Scholarships, N199.9 million.''

He said that the state government would spend N73.9 million on the local scholarship scheme.

Aninye, who commended the awardees and their parents, urged them to justify the investment by the state government.

He commended the state government for giving the board the opportunity to serve and urged the private sector to work together to sustain the project.

He said the board would monitor the schemes to ensure that the awardees were committed.
