Delta bans use of fireworks

Delta - Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, Delta Commissioner of Police, on Wednesday said that the police would raid super markets and stores that deal on fireworks, insisting that its ban was still in force.

Aduba, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba, said it was shocking that people still use fireworks recklessly in spite of the warnings.

He said that the police would not only arrest and prosecute the culprits, but would raid the super markets and night clubs that operate without licences as they harbour criminals.

``The knock outs, the ban on fireworks is still in force and we are surprise that people are still using them recklessly, causing panic.

``We are warning them, we are warning super market operators that there is going to be massive raid of super markets.

``And night clubs, night life is welcome but if you don’t have licence we are not going to allow you to operate,’’ Aduba said.

He said that the police was trying its best and employing all strategies to check crimes in the state, adding that crime was everywhere in the world.

He said that it was the responsibility of all to ensure that the environment was well managed so as not to scare away potential investors.

Aduba promised a safe Christmas celebration in the state.
