Delta govt. releases N2bn for road maintenance projects

03 December 2012, 07:20

Asaba - Delta Commissioner for Works, Mr Solomon Funkekeme, on Sunday said that the state government had released N2 billion to its Direct Labour Agency (DLA) for road maintenance projects.

Funkekeme told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the government had also directed the Ministry of Works to ensure that roads in the state were passable before the Christmas season.

He, however, said that the state government was working on 15 roads in Asaba, with a view to upgrading the city’s urban status.

Besides, Funkekeme said that the 2013 budget of the ministry of works was aimed at completing ongoing road projects in the state.

He stressed that the ongoing road and drainage projects across the state were aimed at opening up the state for businesses, while attracting potential investors to the state.

Funkekeme disclosed that apart from the road construction projects across the state, the state government had spent about N30 billion in reconstructing and maintaining some federal roads in the state.

NAN recalls that Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan, at recent meeting with contractors handling major road and drainage projects in the state, said that between 1999 and 2012, the state government had awarded contracts worth N300 billion for road projects.
