Abuja – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on his appointment as a life member of Nigeria`s Body of Benchers.
Dogara's Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs Turaki Hassan, said the conferment of life membership on Tambuwal was well deserved.
He said Tambuwal had distinguished himself as a lawyer, parliamentarian and now Governor.
Dogara said as a consumate lawyer and astute parliamentarian, Tambuwal had written his name in gold in the annals of history of the legal profession and the institution of the National Assembly.
“As a former Speaker, Tambuwal contributed immensely to the development of the institution of the legislature and the deepening of democracy in Nigeria,” Dogara was quoted as saying.

The Speaker called on Tambuwal, to deploy his wealth of experience as a lawmaker to impact on the legal profession in the country as he serves as a Life Bencher.
Membership of the body is highly sought after by legal professionals serving in the bar and the bench.
The body is made up of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), President of the Court of Appeal, Presiding Justices of Court of Appeal Divisions and the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.
Others are the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Chief Judges of the States, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Chairman of the Council of Legal Education and the President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).
The rest include 30 legal practitioners nominated by the NBA and such number of persons, not exceeding ten, who appear to the body to be eminent members of the legal profession in Nigeria of not less than 15 years post call standing.
