Kosubosu - A gang of armed robbers on Tuesday night shot dead a commercial driver identified as Elijah at Onipanu, between Saki East Council and Baruten Council of Oyo State and Kwara respectively.
An eyewitness account revealed that the incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. when the driver was returning to Ilesha-Baruba in Baruten from Ilorin en route Oyo state along with passengers.
The hoodlums also attempted to kill an official of the Directorate of Security Service (DSS), (names withheld), who was inside the vehicle.
The security officer was said to be returning to his duty post when the incident happened.
The official, who escaped with gunshot wounds, later drove the vehicle to Ilesha-Baruba.

The remains of the victim (deceased driver) were buried in Ilesha-Baruba on Wednesday.
When contacted, Ajayi Okansanmi, Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that he was yet to have a report on the incident.
Meanwhile, Malam Mohammed Omar-Bio, the Chairman of Baruten council, confirmed the incident to a correspondent and described it as unfortunate.
Omar-Bio appealed to chairmen of the local government areas that sharing boundaries with Baruten local government, to charge their vigilante groups to intensify their patrols to ensure security of lives and property.
The chairman also urged the nation’s security agencies to redouble their patrols along the Nigeria-Benin border.
