Ebola: Sokoto earmarks N200m for preventive kits

Sokoto - The Sokoto State Government on Monday said it has set aside N200 million to purchase thermo-scanners, sanitisers and other items for the prevention of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Yusuf Danchadi, the State Commissioner of Education, said in Sokoto that the preventive measures were being put in place to ensure a safe learning environemtn in schools.

Public primary and post-primary schools reopened on Monday for the new academic session.

"These thermo-scanners, sanitisers, plastic tanks, buckets, towels and detergents are to be distributed to all the 229 junior and senior secondary schools across the 23 local governments.

"We have placed an order for all these items and they will soon be supplied for onward distribution to the schools.

"There are 83 senior secondary schools, 146 are junior secondary and 22 boarding schools in the state,” the commissioner said.

He disclosed that government had trained EVD desk officers in all the schools.

Danchadi restated the government’s commitment to prevent the spread EVD and other diseases in the state.
