Abuja - A dead person and four ghost workers has been discovered in the payroll of Edo State Government.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued from Government House Benin City, mirroring the irregularities of the state’s payroll.
“In response to the marching order giving by Edo State Executive Council to the various Ministries to weed off ghost workers in the state government employment, four ghost workers were discover in one of the ministries and a deceased person who still receives salary till date,” a statement from the state government read."
It added that the Ministry of Transport, under the leadership of Commissioner Orobosa Omo Ojo, gather together, members of Edo State Traffic Management Agency, in an open space of BLOCK D in the State Secretariat, along Sapele Road, to conduct head count with a view to determine the proper number of staff.
“The Commissioner Orobosa Omo-Ojo was aided in the exercise by supervising officers led by the Head of Operations of Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) Amadi Owas. Roll call was taken to be sure of the identity of those who were physically present. This was achieved as each person was called upon to confirm his or her name on the list printed out by the commissioner. This was to enable the commissioner to ascertain those who are impostors and to also determine those of them who do not come to work but still receive salaries.”
According to the Government House statement some bona fide member of the Agency who decided to abscond from duties would be disciplined accordingly.
