Benin- The Edo Government on Monday postponed the resumption of all schools from April 22 to April 29, citing the rescheduled local government elections in some council.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, Ekpenisi Omorontiomwan, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone in Benin that the schools would resume on April 29.
Omorontiomwan said that the postponement was due to the local government elections rescheduled in some parts of the state to April 24 and April 25.
He also said that the postponement was to allow the ongoing West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) run smoothly without undue interference.
``Most of the primary and secondary schools are centres for both the local government elections and WAEC examinations.
``It will not be proper for school children to be seen around schools premises when elections are going on,” Omorontiomwan said.
