Edo - The Edo State Ministry of Health has a number of private health facilities in the Edo North Senatorial District for allegedly falling short of operational standards.
According to an official, it is part of the government effort to stamp out quackery from the healthcare delivery system in the state.
The facilities closed down are Care Medical Centre, Enwan, Greater Glory/Laboratory Services, Rena Nursing and Maternity Home, Divine Maternity Nursing Home and Okpella and Okpella Nursing and Maternity Home.
According to a statement by the State Commissioner for Health, Aihanuwa Eregie, beside the affected health facilities failure to meet up with the required operational standards, some were allegedly operating above the levels they were registered to operate. Some, she said, had failed to register or renew their operating licenses.
The Commissioner expressed dismay over the poor unhygienic environment in which some of these health facilities operated.
She said appropriate sanctions would be visited on those who did not comply with the laid-down rules and regulations set by the Ministry.
She ordered the operators of the affected facilities to report to the Ministry in Benin City as a follow up to the closure of their facilities and reiterated the present administration’s commitment to the protection of the health of its citizens.
