Lagos - An internet scammer has been sentenced to a year’s imprisonment with hard labour for defrauding a buyer N100 000 in a phony car deal.

Bello Dominic Oizamisi, a student of Federal Polytechnic in Auchi, Edo State was sentenced when he appeared before Justice Sabiu Yahuza of the Federal High Court, Dutse.

The court heard that in January 2013, he fraudulently displayed a car for sale on the internet, in which one Abdul-Azeez Abdul-Rahman eventually showed interest in buying.

In the course of negotiation, the convict allegedly demanded money from Abdul-Rahman.

The money was wired to him through his account in one of the new generation banks. After an never-ending wait for the car to be delivered, the victim alerted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission leading to the arrest of Oizamasi.

He pleaded guilty.

Justice Yahuza consequently convicted and sentenced him to one year imprisonment with option of N100 000 fine.
