Ekiti speaker orders legislators to resume

21 October 2014, 11:15

Ado-Ekiti - Speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, on Monday reversed his earlier decision ordering members to proceed on one-month recess.

Omirin had earlier given the order shortly after the swearing-in of the new governor, Ayo Fayose.

The speaker said in a statement issued by the clerk, Tola Esan, on Monday that he rescinded the decision in the overriding interest of the public.

Omirin urged all the legislators to resume work immediately to move the state forward.

He said the resumption would enable the new government settle down for governance “without any hindrance’’.

Omirin explained that he ordered the lawmakers to go on recess to enable them study the political change of power and come out stronger.

The 26-member House is dominated by 25 members of All Progressive Congress, while the PDP has one.
