Abuja- The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has nullified the appointment of Ismaila Iyah, the village head of Dobi in Gwagwalada Area Council.
This is contained in a statement signed by Oluyinka Akintunde, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister of State for FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide, and issued on Sunday in Abuja.
The statement said that Iyah’s appointment was irregular and did not follow the due process.
It said that the FCTA had directed Abubakar Giri, the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, to suspend the appointment of the village head until further notice.
"The FCTA wishes to reiterate that, in all matters of appointment of district and community heads, the administration’s approval must be sought before such appointment is made by any area council.
"Consequently, based on this breach of the regulation by the area council, the appointment of the village head of Dobi is, hereby, invalidated until laid-down procedures, rules and administrative processes as well as due process are complied with by the council,’’ it stated.
The statement said that the FCTA, however, advised members of the Dobi Community and their leaders to remain law-abiding and peaceful, while the appropriate procedure was adopted in handling the matter.
