FRSC apprehends 10 093 traffic offenders

01 August 2013, 16:20

Osogbo- The FRSC  in Osun  on Thursday said it arrested 10 093 road traffic offenders in the state between January and June.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Imoh Etuk, made this known  while speaking at a press briefing in Osogbo.

Etuk said those  apprehended  committed  offences such as over speeding, dangerous driving and  non compliance with the use of seat belt.

He added that out of the arrested offenders, 773 were prosecuted by the FRSC mobile court while 25 were cautioned and discharged.

Etuk said  6 429 persons, who were not prosecuted by the mobile court, were booked and fined by the commission.

He said that  in addition to being booked, the offenders were educated  on road safety tips and guidelines.

The FRSC boss, however, advised motorists to be  careful during the  rainy  season  and   ensure their vehicles had  good tyres and functional wind screen wipers.

He attributed most of the accidents recorded in the state  to over speeding and advised  motorists  to apply common sense speed limit when driving.
