Fake emblem syndicate arrested in Ebonyi

03 March 2014, 22:05

Abakaliki - The Ebonyi Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of a syndicate which allegedly produces forged emblems and seals of the Ebonyi Environmental Protection Agency (EBSEPA).

This is contained in a statement signed by Chris Anyanwu, the command’s Public Relations Officer in Abakaliki.

In the statement, the police said the syndicate also engaged in the distribution, sales and use of the forged emblems.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested by crack operatives of the command’s Intelligence Bureau.

It further said the items recovered from the houses and business offices of the suspects in Onitsha, Anambra include: 300 pieces of fake 2014 EBSEPA emblems and four pieces of 2013 fake EBSEPA emblems.

Others are three fake receipt booklets of the state governor’s office, one forged seal of the original contractor of the emblem-printing project and one numbering machine.

The statement added that the suspects would be charged to court on Monday, March 3 on charges of conspiracy and forgery.

The command pledged to continue doing its best to ensure that crime was reduced to the barest minimum in the state.
